Hale is the Hawaiian word for home. Weekly games grew into five, six, seven tables of laughter and fun multiple days a week, and our house became Hale Mahj. Living in Hawai‘i, inspiration is constant. We found ourselves sketching tiles, painting ideas, and imagining what our own set hale set would be. Eventually, we stopped asking what if and decided to make them.

We kept coming back to the color of the water off Lanikai, the kind you only see at sunrise, when the ocean is still and the day hasn’t quite begun.

We wanted to capture the details we see every day, but in a way that felt specific to this place. At the same time, we didn’t want to design for just one style of play. Mahjong’s depth comes from its roots, and we love playing across traditions, from Chinese and Hong Kong styles to American. That versatility became part of the design itself. This is what we created. Tiles inspired by where we live, and made for how we play.
